CAFE FINGERLOS, SALZBURG, EXPANSION of “NON-SMOKING PARLOUR“
GASTRONOMY
MAY 2002
32,00 SQUARE METRES
A visit to Café Fingerlos is a very special treat indeed – pure pleasure and atmosphere, proved anew day by day by the run on available tables.

This business became a real strain for the service and working process. Therefore the wish for a non-smoking area came up, as well as the urgent need for an extension of the incredibly cramped kitchen area. With some of the adjoining rooms becoming vacant the transformation of the former kitchen into a non-smoking parlour and the realisation of a new kitchen, generous and modern in structure could finally be tackled.

The non-smoking parlour literally mirrors the atmosphere of the café. Floor-to-ceiling mirrors were installed all around the room, large scale, creating wideness, which is quite a surprise taking into consideration the limited space of the room. Additional tension was created by the choice of colours – the suspended ceiling was designed in powerful orange thus triggering a stark contrast to the black brim of the ceiling. The blue benches running all around the room finally bring the colours harmoniously together - full of contrast yet in a strong, pleasant interaction.

The traditional Viennese Coffeehouse has been given a whole new face, modern and up to date, thus creating a completely new coffeehouse-atmosphere. From the idea to its realisation, from the necessity of change to accepting it – the run on tables can go on.
