The frame for the project was a historically protected ensemble within a block from the “Gründerzeit". On one hand elements of its surroundings were to be included in its proportions and structure, on the other hand a modern formulation had to be found.
The facade adopts various elements by way of axes, window size and distribution, by creating footing areas and endings. Even in the choice of the surface of the facade and the size of the window openings an interpretation and dialectic was intended in order to create a new complex unity.
The fact that the house is situated on the comer of the building block begs for a special consideration. To the opposing facades an equivalent is put and street-space is defined. Horizontal as well as vertical elements as a regulative for the street-space, and they direct the eyes of the visitors. An ancient, beautiful part of the city with vast spaces, people who walk, dawdle and enjoy themselves, rows of trees and open-air restaurants: these elements of an old part of the city were to be reconstructed.
The interior of the building gives the impressions of a modem, well-cared-for and pleasing living space for elderly people, offering a private sphere as well as luxury and commodities in a community. For this late phase in people's lives an adequate formulation was found. Esthetic and functional demands are bound together in synergy.
