SPAR WINDISCHGARSTEN
SHOPPING CENTRE
JANUARY 2001
500,00 M² TA
In the process of town planning and development the need for a shopping centre in the centre of a rural community was articulated. A suitable area was soon found which was easy to reach on foot from the surroundings and had good traffic connections with the communities around. The problem, however, was the parking - a very small parking area and high traffic frequency.

The design is in accordance with the demands of the building site. In many ways it fulfills their postulates as well as considering esthetic dimensions. On a basic footing the centre proper is situated:
a selling area with glass elements to the roof, topped by a well-cantilevered roof disc. The facade has a clear and well-structured rhythm and radiates quietude and orientation and in spite of its uniformity the function of the building is being interpreted.

The view on the surrounding landscape will be part of the shopping experience. Brightness and friendliness should form a frame for an entrepreneur’s philosophy. The entrance area is well proportioned since a shopping centre is meant to be a place also far human communication. In accordance with the terrain car traffic and pedestrians' movements are organized. There will be a clear separation between both, and trolleys can easily be reached. Cars can be parked in the basic footing and by creating free spaces this guarantees and optimizes the realization of this design.
